The Batman, Flash: Everything we know about these upcoming blockbusters so far

It has been nine years since the last solo Batman movie opened on the large screens. Though the caped crusader appeared in Batman Vs Superman: The Dawn of Justice and Justice League, the last solo outing of the Caped Crusader was in The Dark Knight Rises. But the Dark Knight cannot be kept away from the big screen. Well, a new film titled The Batman is arriving at cinemas on March 2022 as per the current schedule.

Originally, Ben Affleck was supposed to direct and star as the titular character. However, due to some creative differences, Ben Affleck left the project and Matt Reeves of Planet of the Apes fame took the helm for this movie. With Matt Reeves on the director's chair, the search for the new Caped Crusader was underway. Robert Pattinson was then confirmed as the new Batman.

As per the news that we have on this film, this movie will be a standalone film apart from the DCEU. Though it will be on its own continuity, it will not be connected in any way with the DCEU films.

So, let's take a look at the cast and crew of the movie.

In this new movie, Robert Pattinson plays the role of the masked vigilante of Gotham City. For this movie, Bruce Wayne is in his second year as the Batman to fight crimes in Gotham City. So, the costume of the Dark Knight is inspired greatly by the Batman: Year One costume.

Andy Serkis is playing the role of Batman's trusted butler and father figure, Alfred. Zoe Kravitz plays the role of Catwoman a.k.a Selina Kyle. She auditioned for the role alongside other powerful names like Ana de Armas, Eiza Gonzalez and Ella Balinska. She was chosen finally for the role.

Tony and Emmy Award winner, Jeffery Wright will be seen as Batman's ally in the GCPD, Jim Gordon.

As far as the antagonists in the film are concerned, we will get to see Collin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a The Penguin. The make-up team for the movie should be praised since he looks completely unrecognizable in the role. On the other hand, Paul Dano has been confirmed to play the role of Edward Nygma a.k.a The Riddler. So, we will see two of the major villains from Batman's diverse rogue gallery in the movie.

We will also see the veteran actor John Turturro in the role of Gotham crime boss Carmine Falcone. You may see Peter Sarsgaard in the role of Harvey Dent as per the reports.

After watching both the trailers including the recent one that dropped during the DC Fandome event, many fans are speculating that the film will adapt the story from The Long Halloween storyline. However, no confirmation has been received yet from Matt Reeves. He has claimed this to be an original story. We will get to see it once the movie opens in the theatre or receive any further detail.

During the DC Fandome event, we also got to see a teaser from the upcoming Flash film. In this film, Michael Keaton will reprise his role as the 1989 Batman whereas Ben Affleck reprises the role of the DCEU version of the Caped Crusader.

In the teaser, we also get to see two different versions of Ezra Miller as the Flash. Fans are speculating that it may involve multiverse concepts. Many sources have also reported that Grant Gustin will also have a cameo in the movie as the CW version of the character. We were also provided with a better look for the new costume of the Scarlet Speedster as well during the Fandome event.

Well, as of now, all we can do is to keep our hopes up and wait for extended trailers to have more insight. But one thing can be said that both of these movies will absolutely rule the big screens once they open in the cinemas.
